May 8 - Welcome to the SummitNow that you've read to this part of the book, you've been up to the summit with Krakauer and you are starting to see the way that everything is falling apart.
I apologize for stopping you right in the middle of the climax of the book, but if you are frustrated by that fact, perhaps it means that you are excited to read on. I hope you enjoy reading to the end of the book and remember that you can contact me anytime with questions about Into Thin Air. Sincerely, Mr. Riche. Here's what we'll do this week: 1. Record the Most Powerful Lines from the book this week under the "May 8 - Camp One to the Summit" forum--you'll see the topic. 2. I would like you to take over the discussion from me and here's how it is going to go down: under the forum "Miscellaneous" I would like you to start your own topic by asking a question. Then, it is your job to answer the questions of at least three other people. Note: take some time to come up with your question before you post it--you want it to allow for a thoughtful, open-ended answer. It is sometimes a good idea to allow people to connect to their own experiences. 3. Over the course of the week, I would like you to read the interview with Krakauer that you will find on the "There's More to This Website" Page. Perhaps I should warn you about the language... Look under the "May 8 - Camp One to The Summit" forum for the task--basically, the most interesting thing Krakauer says. Added fun: Google recently got someone to take pictures of Everest Base Camp (along with four of the "Seven Summits" mentioned a number of times in the book) for Street View. Check it out here. |
